Coeur de Cuisine™ Frequently Asked Questions

Q. What exactly is Coeur de Cuisine™?
A. It is a "culinary celebration" in which up to 30 renowned chefs from North San Diego County as well as La Jolla and the metropolitan San Diego area will come to the California Center for the Arts Conference Center Salons on Sunday, February 23, 2014 at 5:00 pm to prepare and serve their signature dishes. Wines from San Diego County vintners will be paired with the hors d’ oeuvres, entree, and dessert courses. The evening will include a silent auction and musical entertainment. Valet Parking will be provided.

Q. Is it a formal "sit down" dinner, a "taste," or what?
A. Neither. The chefs will prepare and serve their dishes from cooking stations located throughout the venue and wineries will also have stations throughout the venue. Patrons will walk about and be able to select from all the dishes and wines and talk with the chefs and vintners. There will be tables assigned to the VIPs and Sponsors and their guests in the main salon. There will be stand-up tables and open tables in the venue next to the main salon for all general admission guests. Rest assured, there will be more food and wines available, both in variety and quantity, than would be at a sit-down dinner.

Q. What is the cost to attend or become a sponsor?
A. Reservations are $125 per person for general admission; $300 for VIP Admission and with reserved Seating. Sponsorships levels begin at $1,200.

Q. Dress for the evening?
A. Black tie optional; business, classic mardi gras, and other evening attire acceptable.

Q. How many people are expected to attend?
A. Attendance is limited to 500.

Q. Is Coeur de Cuisine™ tax deductible?
A. Most of it is. The “direct benefit” has been determined to be $40 per person. Escondido Rotary Foundation is a California 501(c)(3) Non-profit Corporation. You should consult with your tax preparer to determine what portion of your reservation/sponsorship is tax-deductible.

Q. What Charities does the Rotary Foundation support?
A. A partial list of local charities includes..... Cub & Boy Scouts, Boys & Girls Club, Brain Injury Foundation, Escondido Child Development Center, Children’s Museum, Historical Society, Humane Society, Public Library, First Night Escondido, Glenner Alzheimer Center, Grad Nights for Escondido, Orange Glen, San Pasqual , Center City and Valley Center High Schools, Meals on Wheels, Palomar YMCA, Interfaith Community Services, Neighborhood Healthcare, Serenity House, Elizabeth Hospice, and others; as well as, funding for Rotary Youth Leadership Awards, high school speech contests, and scholarships, students of the month at high schools and San Pasqual Academy, and service projects of EHS Interact and Bernardo School among others. Escondido Rotary Foundation provides additional funding to a few selected international projects such as Micro-Credit Village Banking, youth peace education or music exchange, or as seed money for group projects which are eligible for matching funds from other Rotary organizations.

Q. Is Coeur de Cuisine™ a one-time event?
A. We expect Coeur de Cuisine™ to become the Escondido Rotary Club’s annual signature fund-raising event – and a social highlight for North San Diego County. Those attending and sponsoring the Coeur will be helping to establish an upscale philanthropic and social tradition in our community. We are now planning our 10th year.
