LIBATION PARTICIPANTS OF 2008

Cognac Compliments of:

Sidney Frank Importing Co., Inc., - Jacques Cardin Cognac VSOP
Sidney Frank Importing Co., Inc. presents another ultra-premium product to its line: Jacques Cardin Cognac VSOP. Created in Cognac, France, JC, is a smooth cognac made with a selection of Ugni-Blanc grapes chosen with special attention paid to the soil of the vineyards. A combination of these grapes adds complexity to JC. As JC is a VSOP (Very Special Old Pale), it is created with a blend of cognacs, each aged at least four years. This special blend, developed by the cellar master, is then aged in small French oak casks. It spends its life in contact with wood, developing delicious aromas of wood tannins. JC has an amber hue with deep golden reflections. It has an intense floral nose that reveals notes of vine flowers and some vanilla undertones. On the palate, it has a heady taste with a ginger and honey finish.

In addition to JC Cognac, Sidney Frank Importing is pleased to introduce two unique flavors: JC Apple VSOP and JC Jasmin VSOP. JC Apple begins with a selection of wines, chosen for their aromas of pear, apricot, and apple. JC Apple has a lively nose that awakens with the aroma of freshly harvested apples. On the palate, a warm apple sensation yields to a finish of fresh green apple. JC Jasmin is an exotic flavor made with a distillate imported from India. The nose is delightfully floral with undertones of herbs and tea while the palate is heady and stimulating.

Beer Compliments of:

Stone Brewery

Having grown at least 40 percent per year since its founding by Greg Koch and Steve Wagner seven years ago, this San Marcos-based brewer is no longer a "microbrewery," rather a "regional specialty brewery" that produces premium beers distributed in 18 states. Last year, the brewery produced 25,000 barrels and was listed among the 500 fastest-growing companies in the U.S. by Inc. magazine.

Karl Strauss

As Master Brewer, Karl Strauss designs the brewery operations and processes used by Karl Strauss Brewing Company, formulates the beers produced, and personally trains brewmasters of the company. Since the company began brewing beer in 1989, the demand for Karl Strauss’ handcrafted beers has increased more than fifty-fold, and Karl Strauss Brewing Company has grown to become the largest distributing microbrewery company based in Southern California. No small brewery in America can equal our quality standards, equipment, or brewing expertise. Chris Cramer and Karl Strauss are cousins.

Following his graduation from business school, Chris Cramer (CEO and Co-Founder) traveled extensively from 1985 to 1987, visiting almost fifty countries on six continents. During these travels, he was first exposed to the “Brewery Restaurant” concept in Freemantle, Australia. Together, Chris and Matt Rattner (President) formed Karl Strauss Brewing Company in 1989.

Tequila Compliments of:

El Duende Tequila

Tequila El Duende de Don Felipe is a product born from a childhood passion and a passion for México’s rich culture. It is produced in Arandas, a region 6,561 ft. above sea level, known as Los Altos. There is a saying here “Dónde el agave besa el cielo” (Where the agave kisses the heavens).  Tequila a treasure from Mexico to the world.

Wines Compliments of:

Edwards Vineyards & Cellars

Edwards Vineyards & Cellars is located on Highway 78 at the eastern most end of the newly approved American Viticultural Area (AVA) of Ramona Valley. With this new AVA, or appellation designation, we can now say “Ramona Valley” on the label.

The focus at our family-operated vineyard and winery is to produce small lots of premium handmade wines from Ramona Valley-grown grapes. Our vineyard is planted with Petite Sirah, Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon varietals. We are currently not open to the public, but are looking for interested restaurants and wine shops to carry our wines. Look for our tasting room in the future. Enjoy!

Founded in 1944, this winery is a third-generation, family estate business located in north central San Diego County. The vineyards and winery overlook the Warner Springs valley along the historic Butterfield Stage Route, now highway 79. The winery specializes in Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Zinfandel, Syrah, Voignier and Muscat Canelli. Come for a visit.

Twin Oaks Valley Winery

San Marcos’ first producing winery, carries forward the long history of grape growing in the historic Twin Oaks Valley. The area’s growing conditions are similar to the Rhone Valley of southern France. This evening, the winery will be pouring its 2002 estate-bottled Syrah, a full-flavored, deep and fruity red as well as the just-released 2004 buttery Voignier.

Callaway Vinyard & Winery

Callaway Winery was founded in 1969 by the now infamous, Ely Callaway, who went on to gain fame and fortune in the world of golf. Extensive research led Mr. Callaway to Temecula, to veteran viticulturist John Moramarco, and to his belief that the area was ideal for growing premium wine grapes. In the rolling hills, he found what he believed to be the perfect spot to plant his vines; a 1600 foot plateau, located below the peaks of a foggy mountain range "where the sun shines through the mist". And the legacy began.

Cactus Star Vineyard

Cactus Star's winery is dedicated to producing small lots of premium wine from the on premise vineyard and from local Ramona Valley grown grapes. All our wines undergo cold soaking and primary fermentation in small macro bins where the caps are punched down at least twice daily. Then the must is pressed and put into 225 liter oak barrels where the wine completes it's fermentation and undergoes malo-lactic conversion.

Carlsbad Coastal

Welcome to Carlsbad Coastal Winery, the only Southern California Winery that harvests their grapes from Northern California and Central California Coast.  This year we are proud to present six varietals from our 2005 harvest.

Hacienda de las Rosas

The essence of the Spanish wine will be the focus of Hacienda de las Rosas winery.  Spanish wines are making a tremendous comeback across the country and we will feature red wines that invoke great traditions of Spanish wine-making.  The past few years have been busy with our creation of a first-class winery.  Our idea is to have a simple, but elegant winery with gardens and grapes throughout the property.

Wilson Creek Winery and Vineyards

The Wilson family farms 220 acres of low-yield hillside vineyards, all within the boundaries of the Dry Creek Valley appellation—a region renowned for growing superb grapes. Diane Wilson draws from these vineyards to make her highly coveted hand-crafted wines of exceptional depth and intensity.

Each estate vineyard is named for a member of the family. Carl and Dorothy are Ken Wilson’s parents. Ellie is Diane Wilson’s mother, and Sydney, Tori and Sawyer are Ken and Diane’s three children. To learn more about the family members and their namesake vineyards, click on the links below.

Woof'n Rose Winery

The Woof'n Rose Vineyard first planting was in 1995 when a small number of Zinfandel and Petite Sirah vines were planted just to see if they wouod grow. The next year a few Caberent Sauvignon and about 300 Merlot vines were added. Viticulture got serious in 2003 when 500 Cabernet Franc vines were planted and again in 2004 with the addition of 600 Grenache Noir vines.

Witch Creek Winery

Founded in 1993, Witch Creek Winery is located in Carlsbad, California, in San Diego County. The winery is named for Witch Creek which runs near a vineyard east of Ramona, also in San Diego County. Before they started the winery, the Wodehouse family bought some of their grapes from that vineyard and the association stuck. A cat - according to legend, a witch's closest companion - is used as an illustration on Witch Creek labels. The winery focuses on handcrafted wines that it typifies as rich, full-bodied and well-balanced. Witch Creek wines are available only through the tasting rooms and the Cellar Club. The tasting room in Carlsbad is located near the beach on Highway 101 as it goes through Carlsbad - the other tasting room is in the San Diego County mountains in historic and picturesque Julian.
